PAUSE works by focusing your attention and following an interactive, organic circle that gives you EEG feedback and plays soothing music harmoniously. There are settings for duration and difficulty (novice – master), so if you would like to focus longer or you think following the circle is too easy you can adjust it accordingly. PAUSE will also track basic stats, like how many times you’ve paused, the total time you’ve used it and the longest time. That’s all there is to it – simple yet effective. The app was developed by PausAble and based on the principles of Tai Chi and mindfulness to help slow down your racing mind and relax – and hopefully fall asleep!

TaoMix 2 by inookta is all about the nature soundscapes, but it isn’t just an app for listening to a sound to fall asleep. TaoMix 2 works by allowing you to create your own sound environment and then save and share them with friends. Add or take away the sounds you want from a massive library, or create your own on a timer. Each sound is represented by a colored circle. If you want a loon, ocean and crickets chirping, just add them. Moving the circles around closer to the white circle makes that particular sound louder. You can have up to 120 sounds playing at the same time – which I could imagine would be quite busy or you can even create your own. TaoMix 2 pairs with HomeKit so you can pair your light system with it – imagine the light show! Finally, TaoMix 2 has a premium option to have access to the entire library of sounds.

Sleep Cycle by Sleep Cycle AB is great for tracking and analyzing your sleep patterns in great detail, helping you pinpoint sleep issues. It has a smart alarm clock that gently wakes you up naturally when you’re in your lightest sleep state. You won’t need to place your phone under your pillow which is great because doing so can overheat your phone and isn’t healthy to have your device so close to your body for that amount of time. All you need to do is place it beside your bed and it will track your sleep, including the snoring! Sleep Cycle integrates with Apple Watch and Apple Health and you can simply shake your device to enter snooze mode. The free version offers a generous amount of features but premium has some enticing features such as: Weather and how it affects your sleep, comparing your sleep data worldwide and your longterm sleep trends.
